The Family Room and Kitchen

Looking from the same position into the family room and then into the kitchen. The TV goes above the gas fireplace in that niche. (The mantle had not been completed when this photo was taken.) The cabinet to the left of the fireplace is for A/V equipment. The seats under the window have storage space (one can never have too much storage space).

The island is a large workspace we love. The trash and recycling cans are underneath on the other side. The dishwasher is at the end of the bar there, and it is raised up 6" to the height of the bar for easier loading.

From where you'd be standing in the right picture above, if you turned around you'd be facing the kitchen table area:

Behind the table area is a b/i hutch. The left drawers hold placemats and other odds and ends and the right cabinet has a pull-out rack for draping tablecloths. More storage above! You couldn't get a good view of the covered patio from inside the kitchen, so that's a view from outside instead.

Looking over at the other side of the kitchen is our new freezer and refrigerator. Actually the fridge we've had for a while utilizing it as a second out in the utility room. When the architect designed some features in the kitchen, he had allowed space for a 48" side-by-side fridge. Well, as it turns out, those range in cost from $7-10K (and more if you want really higher end models). That seemed a bit ridiculous to us, so instead we moved over the right wall that surrounds the unit, and got the matching freezer to our fridge for only $1,000! In this picture, they have not been leveled and the trim kit completely installed, but you get the idea. Off to the right of the fridge is the pantry door and then further over the door to the laundry room or turn the corner into the dining room.
